Lab Information Session and Tour for 3rd-Year Undergraduate Students, 2026

We will hold a Lab Information Session for third-year undergraduate students according to the following schedule:

  • Location: 11-12, IST Building 11th floor
  • Date and Time: Oct 16 (Fri) at 13:00-, 14:00-
    (Please attend an earlier session if possible. We may not hold the 14:00 session if there are no participants.)

Lab tours are also available. The available time slots are as follows:

  • Location: ICN Lab., IST Building 11th floor
  • Date and Time: Students will definitely be available during the following hours.
    (Please do not visit before your laboratory class has finished; School of Engineering Timetable)

    • Oct 15 (Thu) 16:30-
    • Oct 16 (Fri) 16:30-

Introduction of Media Network Course for Freshmen (Sep. 2026)

On Wednesday, September 30, an introductory session for first-year students was held. Students from our research laboratory also participated as representatives of the Media Network Course. We provided an overview of the course, introduced our laboratory using a poster panel, and gave demonstrations to the first-year students. The demonstrations included:

  • Real-time audio feature visualization system using an FPGA board and a Raspberry Pi
  • Chapit, a voice recognition robot from Raytron

Best Wishes to Prof. Takeo Ohgane on His Retirement

Prof. Takeo Ohgane has retired from Hokkaido University. We sincerely thank him for all his support and wish him all the best in his retirement.

Participation of Fourth-Year Students in the 30th PARTHENON Workshop

Ando, a first-year master’s student, and Nakamura, a fourth-year undergraduate student, participated in the 30th PARTHENON Workshop, organized by the nonprofit PARTHENON Society, held at the Tokyo Campus of the Institute for Small Business Management and Technology, Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN, from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30 (Tsutsui also participated). They designed hardware using the hardware description language NSL, developed C programs to run on the SN/X CPU, which was also designed using NSL, and implemented the resulting hardware/software systems on the DE10-Lite platform. They also gained hands-on experience with logic synthesis, placement and routing, GDS generation, and static timing analysis (STA) using the Coriolis Open EDA Tool.

Temporary suspension of services due to planned power outage (Sep 12 – 14, 2026)

A planned power outage will be conducted at Hokkaido University’s Sapporo Campus on Sunday, September 13th, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. As a result, all lab services will be suspended
from 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 12th, until 10:00 AM on Monday, September 14th.
The service suspension period may vary, and some services might be running slightly, or they might not be running at all.

Research Presentations by Mr. Saeki at the BCT Workshop

Mr. Saeki gave a presentation on his research at the BCT Workshop, which was held in Kitami on July 16 and 17.

Hokkokai Tamaire Competition 2026

We participated in the Hokkokai Tamaire Competition held on Tuesday, July 7, representing the Media Network Course. We scored exactly one hundred TAMA, but did not place.

IEICE Young Researcher’s Award (D1 Chenyu Zhao)

Mr. Chenyu Zhao, a first-year doctoral student (D1), received the IEICE Young Researcher’s Award for the following presentation at the IEICE Society Conference 2025

IEICE Hokkaido Section Student Activity Committee Internet Symposium 2026 (FY 2025) and Student Branch Advisors Award

Mr. Iura and Mr. Kawashima presented their works at IEICE Hokkaido Section Student Activity Committee Internet Symposium 2026 (FY 2025), which was held online from Feb. 20 to 27. Mr. Iura received the Hokkaido Section Student Branch Advisors Award.
