RCS Conference and IEICE RCS Presentation Award for Young Researcher

Mr. Kumaki presented his research in a hybrid online format at the January 2023 Wireless Communication Systems Workshop held at Maebashi Terrsa (Maebashi, Gunma) on January 24-25. This presentation is a fundamental study on decoding of short code length Polar codes using neural networks.

A student networking event was held during this convention. This networking event was organized by IEEE Hokkaido University Student Branch, IEEE Muroran Institute of Technology Student Branch, and IEICE Muroran Institute of Technology Student Branch. Students from some universities in Hokkaido made their presentations. Mr. Kunii served as the MC and made a presentation as the representative of the IEEE Hokkaido university student branch.

Young Researcher Excellent Paper Presentation Award, Award Ceremony

An award ceremony for the Young Researcher Excellent Paper Presentation Award was conducted with the year-end and welcome party. The award certificate and 10,000 yen in cash as a supplementary prize were presented to Mr. Yasugi.

Mr. Yasugi presented his paper at 2021 Joint Convention, the Hokkaido Chapters of the Institutes of Electrical and Information Engineers, which was held online on Nov 6th-7th. In this paper, we presented an energy consumption evaluation of LoRa using USRP devices.

A student networking event was held during this convention. Students of each university made presentations about their university, research activity, and student activity. Mr. Yasugi, who is the chair of IEEE student branch at Hokkaido university introduced the activity of the student branch.

The 1st Hokkaido Young Professionals Workshop

Assoc Prof Tsutsui made a presentation entitled “Design Techniques for Wireless Communication and Image Processing IP Cores” at the 1st Hokkaido Young Professionals Workshop held at Muroran Institute of Technology. This workshop was organized by the IEEE Sapporo Section Young Professionals Affinity Group, which was established on Mar 20, 2020. In this workshop, held in a face-to-face style and online, Student Presentation Contest was also held.

2021 International Workshop on Smart Info-Media Systems in Asia (SISA 2021)

Suzuki (M2) and Kato (M1) made presentations on the research results at SISA 2021, held on 9/20-22. SISA 2021 was held online due to the COVID-19 situation, and Associate Professor Tsutsui served as the general chair. SISA 2022 will be held on 9/15-16 in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

2019 International Symposium on Multimedia and Communication Technology (ISMAC 2019)

Students of our laboratory presented their research achievements at 2019 International Symposium on Multimedia and Communication Technology (ISMAC 2017) held in Quezon City, Philippines, from 19 to 21 Aug. Also, Prof. Miyanaga made a presentation as a proxy of Ms. Hay Mar Soe Naing, who was a JICA trainee in our laboratory. Next year’s ISMAC (ISMAC 2020) will be held in Ayutthaya from August 5th to 8th, 2020, which will be 3rd ISMAC in Ayutthaya.
